The Cheese Gift

Back to School Backpacks

Every August the people at NCCLC donated funds and materials to fill backpacks with school supplies for the kids in the Eastside area. Most of them came to Powerhouse Kids Club regularly.

On this particular Saturday, after awarding the backpacks to the kids, one of them came up to Pastor Frank and said, "My mom wants to give you something."

Pastor Frank went to where the woman was sitting with her youngest child in a stroller and she handed him a small packet of cheese spread with little bread sticks in it. She wanted to give him something to show her thanks and the cheese packet was all she had.

Operation Christmas Child

Every year in November many of the members of NCCLC gather at the Place to pack small gift items in shoe boxes to be distributed to children around the world. I guess it's one way we fulfill the 'around the world' part of our vision. Franklin Graham's Samaritan Purse organization has a division called Operation Christmas Child which sorts and delivers these boxes to churches who then give them to kids.

We bring small toys, toiletry items, crayons, markers, color books, books to read, sox, t-shirts , and candy. Items are separated by age and gender. Box tops are covered with Christmas paper, labeled for age and gender and secured with a large rubber band.

The sorting and wrapping is quite an operation and all boxes are prayed over.

On March 18 a young woman from Peru visited us who gave her life to Christ as a child because she received a shoe box. She is now 25 years old and is being trained as a Christian interpreter.
